Wing Chun Kung Fu

It is the most popular Kung Fu system and one of the most effective and complete martial arts. The system is based on combinations of direct, simple, short and effective movements, aiming to save energy and, as a result, it reflects the predominance of technique over power. Because of this advantage, Wing-Chun, is believed to have been developed by a woman nun as well as her invincible girl-student, from whom it got its name.

Wing Chun snapshotThese characteristics make Wing-Chun accessible to everyone, since it does NOT require attributes such as above average strength or flexibility, acrobatic abilities, very small body weight, speed and explosiveness (though all these are acquired during training and without intense effort). The only essential condition is the will for development and systematic (though not necessarily intense) training.

The advantages for the Wing-Chun practitioner are innumerable. Apart from obvious physical benefits that come with exercise, apart from the accompanying vigor and vitality, and apart from the acquired fighting skills, which constitute the most straightforward objective, learning Wing Chun also enhances the practitioner intellectual abilities.

First of all, it leads to a rapid improvement of the mental ability to process and react quickly, it improves reflexes as well as memory, and moreover it develops the mental ability to manage simultaneously larger amounts of information.

In the section of health, the stances and movements of Wing-Chun can have therapeutic effects on various orthopedic problems (in China it is believed that this happens because of the correct Chi circulation; as a result they use Wing-Chun in many treatments). Furthermore, the way of Wing-Chun, contributes to the reduction of stress, facilitates grater self-control, as well as encourages politeness, respect, and proper behavior (which is the reason why martial arts were always considered essential part in children's education).

In our Academy we walk this marvelous evolutionary path by following the lineage of the great master Wong Shun Leung (Yip Man's 1st generation student) - who took part in many bare knuckles fights and never lost a single match, thus proving the superiority of his system.

The methodology of the Academy in teaching Wing-Chun leads to a very fast development of skills (provided that there will be a minimum personal training). This is achieved through simultaneous training in basic techniques, which, in addition, minimizes the time spent on each level (where the practitioner would get tired repeating continuously the same drills again and again).

Extreme pressure and exhaustion is completely OUT of the Academy's philosophy, (as when we get tired we must rest), as are intense blows (since the way of Kung-Fu proved to us that in order to learn, there is no reason to get injured). Big emphasis is also given to the growth of team spirit, collaboration and destruction of any egoism, since in the particular system, “when one goes up ‘he lifts’ the others with him”. The way of Wing-Chun is a way of amusement, pleasure and satisfaction, because it is a way of development.
